Artist: Adam Caldwell

Adam Caldwell, a Bay Area artist is who I'll be doing my pitch on in class today.

Prior to finally picking Adam, I was having a hard time choosing someone who I thought was super fantastic. It wasn't that any of them weren't skilled enough or that their works didn't catch my eye, it was Adam's technique that brought him to me.

I did a quick search on Google on San Francisco Art Galleries and the site for White Walls SF is what jumped to the top of the page.  Under the tab "Artists" on the site's homepage lead me to a list of artists currently showing at the gallery, Adam Caldwell was one of them.  Upon scrolling through the various names and clicking through numerous works, I was underwhelmed because a lot of the works just started to mesh with one another and I found it cumbersome to remember what works belonged to which artist.  It wasn't until I clicked on Adam's link that I was immediately drawn in to his work.

Stay tuned, I'll tell you more about him in class.

Cathy Who? Cathy Liu!

This past Thursday, we had a meet and greet with artist Cathy Liu and had a good time talking about her upcoming show.  She talked about the inspirations for her works and told us why it is that she paints.

Cathy mentioned that as she gets older and as she continues to perfect her craft, she wants her work to move towards a more simplified, organic idea.  She's continually working and reworking her craft in order to achieve this goal.

What I would like to see happen for this upcoming show is to incorporate some of the shapes that Cathy uses in her work and somehow bring those shapes off the canvas.  How we're going to do that, is still a question.  Cathy brought in some books and what I got from those books is that she's got more of a minimalistic approach.  It totally makes sense because it's her life's goal to move her work into a more simplified manner.  Perhaps we could show case her pieces in chronological order to show her refinement?

First Friday, ya say?

People, music, food, and art, what a splendid way to spend a Friday evening.  Prior to this past Friday's Art Walk, I've never attended.  I was pleasantly surprised to see the array of individuals that brushed past me as I made my way to and from.

I was taken aback because in a world where everyone is so isolated, everyone in the community was mingling amongst each other.  Parents and their toddlers mingling with the hipsters, and yuppies mingling with the street vendors.

It was a treat.

I just wish this was the Oakland portrayed in the news.

This is a first of many blog posts to come. Bare with me, I've got things in store.
